As previously reported on this Blog here, four Milwaukee Police Department (“MPD”) officers face charges of conducting illegal body cavity searches and illegal strip searches. On Monday, February 5, 2013, following a motion hearing, Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Wagner ordered that the MPD officer facing the most charges and the most serious charges, Michael Vagnini, will be tried separately from the other three officers, Jeffrey Dollhopf, Brian Kozelek and Jacob Knight.
Judge Wagner set a pre-trial hearing date of February 20, 2013 for all four MPD officers. The trial for Officer Vagnini is scheduled to begin on April 29, 2013, while the trial for Officers Dollhopf, Kozelek and Knight is scheduled to begin on June 3, 2013. The civil rights attorneys of Samster, Konkel & Safran, S.C. represent several of the victims of the allegedly illegal searches conducted by the MPD officers. We will continue to update the case on this Blog and on our main website, which can be found here.
