Yesterday, on April 25, 2023, the Minnesota House of Representatives voted to legalize the adult-use of recreational cannabis. The bill, which has been in the works since the start of this legislative session, was passed by a vote of 71-59.

Following the House’s vote to pass the bill, the Senate is primed to debate and vote on its version of the bill. That debate, and potential vote, is expected to take place this Friday, April 28, 2023. If the Senate votes to pass the bill – which many lawmakers and commentators are confident will be the case – the Senate and House versions of the bill will be sent to conference in attempt to reconcile any differences between the bill. If a compromise is reached and approved, the final version of the bill will then be sent to Governor Walz for his signature.

Although there are still a handful of steps that must take place, legalization of adult-use recreational cannabis may be right around the corner. Stay tuned for more updates!
