The two meetings will be held:

  • March 7th – Capps Technology Center, Indianola, Mississippi

The focus of the Task Force and its work groups is the development and implementation of approaches and strategies to ensure sustainable ground and surface water resources for the Mississippi Delta. Members of the Task Force include:

  • Yazoo Mississippi Delta Joint Water Management District
  • Delta Council
  • Delta F.A.R.M.
  • Mississippi Farm Bureau

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has previously noted that over 19,000 permitted irrigation wells are screened in the shallow Mississippi River Valley Alluvial Aquifer. The aquifer is used for irrigation, aquaculture, and wildlife management purposes. A focus of the Task Force is the fact that pumpage demands exceed recharge in the aquifer.
