The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) recently launched “Nursys”,  a national database for verification of nurses.  The database contains information on the licensure, disciplinary history, and special privileges of Registered Nurses and Licensed Professional Nurses.  The database will be available at http://www.nursys.com, and will have three verification services:  Licensure QuickConfirm, Nurse License Verification, and Emergency Responder Service.  License information will be shared by 51 of the 59 NCSBN member boards, and disciplinary information will be shared by all 59 of the boards.

The new database will be useful for employers who are interested in hiring foreign nurses.  There are several options available for hiring foreign nurses in both the permanent immigration and temporary nonimmigrant categories.
