Producer, Phelim McAleer, recently released a new documentary entitled "FrackNation," intended to debunk misstatements and false impressions created by the 2010 film "Gasland." Frack Nation was financed through the crowdfunding site, Kickstarter, where contributors donated in excess of $200,000.
Mr. McAleer decided to produce the film after attempting to interview Gasland producer Josh Fox and being dissatisfied with the responses to his questions. FrackNation points out many positive facts about oil and gas production in general, and shale gas production in particular, which have not been noted in other documentaries on this subject. Although hydraulic fracturing has been used successfully in the United States, the practice has received increased scrutiny as shale gas production has moved into increasingly urban areas of the country. The film's release comes as the EPA works to complete an extensive study to determine whether any link exists between hydraulic fracturing and groundwater contamination. The study is expected to be completed in 2014.
