On July 17, 2017, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released a revised version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. The form is available here. Form I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All U.S. employers must ensure proper completion of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens.

Employers can continue to use the existing Form I-9 (revision date 11/14/16 N) through September 17, 2017. As of September 18, 2017, employers must use the new Form I-9 (revision date 07/17/17 N) going forward. Employers can continue to follow existing storage and retention rules for previously completed Form I-9s.
