New Milestone to Be Reached in TPA Timeline with NAFTA Developments

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP

As talks between the parties rapidly approach a conclusion, the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement is expected to reach a new milestone. President Trump notified Congress of his intent to sign a new trade agreement with Mexico that Canada may join. This notification is an important event under Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), which governs how Congress considers trade agreements.

Significant reporting and publication deadlines have been triggered since the administration has notified Congress of its intent to sign the agreement. To find out when the text of the agreement may be published and the parties may sign it, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP created this interactive TPA timeline.

Using our interactive calendar, you can choose a possible date for the President to notify Congress of his intent to enter into an agreement, and then see the dates of several other deadlines that will occur, such as the earliest the date by which the President can sign the agreement or when Congress might be able to start considering it. All you have to do is select a possible trigger date, and then the deadlines are automatically calculated.
