The North Carolina General Assembly continued organizational work this week as legislators began to introduce bills and meeting schedules were announced.

Teacher Pay (S28)

Senators Danny Britt (R-Robeson) and Rick Horner (R-Nash) filed a bill Wednesday that would restore salary increases for some of North Carolina's public school educators with advanced degrees in teaching.

Committee Floaters (H16)

The House approved its Rules this week and included a measure that allows for certain House Republican leaders to attend and vote in committee meetings. Efforts by Democrats to eliminate this provision were unsuccessful.

DMV Headquarters

The Council of State, which is composed of 10 statewide officials including Governor Roy Cooper, was scheduled to vote Tuesday on a proposal to move the state Department of Motor Vehicles Headquarters from Raleigh to the former Hardee’s headquarters in Rocky Mount. Facing opposition from some Wake County legislators, Governor Roy Cooper asked the Council to delay the decision until the March meeting. Legislative leaders have indicated that they support the move to Rocky Mount.
