On June 18, 2012, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published a solicitation for information and recommendations to be used in revising its Provider Self-Disclosure protocol.

In 1998, OIG published its Provider Self-Disclosure Protocol. The protocol provides guidance on internal investigations, quantifying damages and reporting conduct that violates regulations and laws governing federal healthcare programs. In 2008, OIG issued additional guidance related to the protocol. OIG is now seeking comments, recommendations and suggestions related to revising the protocol to address proposed revisions.
