The Global Wind Network recently completed an Energy Department (DOE) funded study that took a critical look at U.S. wind industry manufacturers’ ability to compete in the global marketplace and their readiness to supply the next generation of wind turbines. The study found that U.S. turbine component manufacturers maintained the lowest cost on blades and had the most efficient manufacturing processes on towers, blades, and generators when compared to other major global suppliers, including those in Germany and China.

Solar prices in the U.S. in 2013 fell by a further 15 percent year on year, according to a new study from the Department of Energy and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The report "Tracking the Sun" is the seventh edition summarizing PV prices from 1998, up to the first half of 2014, across the U.S.

For Southern California Edison (SCE), building a smarter grid started many years ago with smart meters and upgrades in distribution equipment. Today, the company takes another leap forward with the opening of the largest battery energy storage project in North America, the Tehachapi Energy Storage Project, to modernize the grid to integrate more clean energy. The 32-megawatt battery energy storage system features lithium-ion batteries housed inside a 6,300 square-foot facility at SCE’s Monolith substation in Tehachapi, California.

Seeking to put more California drivers in electric cars, Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation Sunday providing financial incentives and other perks to entice consumers to buy the environmentally friendly vehicles. One measure Brown approved Sunday sets a goal of placing at least 1 million zero-emission vehicles and near-zero-emission vehicles on the road in California by January 1, 2023.

Four energy companies are teaming up on an $8 billion effort to ship electric power produced in Wyoming all the way to Southern California via transmission lines, with the help of a novel energy storage and generation system to be built in Utah. The four companies, Pathfinder Renewable Wind Energy, Magnum Energy, Dresser-Rand Group Inc., and Duke-American Transmission, intend to submit a formal plan by early 2015 to the Southern California Public Power Authority, which is seeking proposals for renewable energy and energy storage projects.

The Rockefellers, who made their vast fortune on oil, and other philanthropies and high-wealth individuals on Monday will announce pledges to divest a total of $50 billion from fossil fuel investments. The Global Divest-Invest coalition will announce new pledges and members one day before 120 heads of state address the United Nations on how their countries will contribute to a global effort to halt a dangerous rise in temperatures.
