The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission (“Commission”) approved Liberty Utilities (Granite State Electric) Corp d/b/a Liberty Utilities (“Liberty Utilities”) petition to undertake a battery storage pilot program through a January 17th Order titled:

Order Approving Settlement Agreement and Implementation of Pilot Program and Granting Motions for Confidential Treatment (“Order”)

The Commission approves Liberty Utilities’ implementation of a battery storage pilot program whose goal is described as achievement of customer savings through peak load reductions.

Liberty Utilities’ program is stated is stated to plan for two phases.

A portion of the pilot program includes under certain conditions authorizing Liberty Utilities installation of up to 500 Telsa Powerwall 2 batteries behind the meter at customers’ premises. The program is also stated to include an opportunity for development of a “bring your own device” component that would involve participation by third-party aggregators under contract with Liberty Utilities.

The project will include the installation of 1,000 batteries in New Hampshire homes by Liberty Utilities and private companies. The batteries are described as being used for two purposes:

• Assist customers in maintaining power at home after a storm
• Reduce Peak Demand
