A 68-year-old Sacramento man was hospitalized with head trauma Monday after he was struck by a Dodge Ram truck while crossing Elkhorn Boulevard in his wheelchair. The driver of the truck, who had just exited westbound I-80, found the victim on the ground bleeding from his head. The Sacramento accident remains under investigation.
California Highway Patrol records indicate that 14,047 pedestrians were injured by motorists in California in 2008. The injuries are often serious, and sometimes deadly, because of the force that a vehicle imparts to an exposed body.
