A significant number of states allow same-sex couples to get married, or offer alternative legal arrangements to same-sex couples, providing most or all of the legal rights associated with marriage. However, these states are a relatively small minority.
In the majority of U.S. states, there is no legal recognition of same-sex relationships. What options to couples who live in these states have when it comes to securing their rights?
