July 19 (Bloomberg Law) -- Paul Barbagallo, reporter at Bloomberg BNA, talks with Bloomberg Law's Lee Pacchia about efforts among government agencies to meet increasing consumer demand for spectrum, the electromagnetic radio frequencies used to transmit sound, data, and video across the country. Barbagallo points out that the rapid growth of the wireless industry has led to a supply side problem as data transmitters are finding current spectrum allocations insufficient to meet demand. Barbagallo predicts that emerging technologies such as cognitive radio could facilitate a broader move towards sharing spectrum in the future. Barbagallo also notes that we might see a "Spectrum Czar" appointed in the future in order to meet the need for central oversight of issues related to spectrum use. See less -
