Former California Attorney General Kamala Harris was elected Vice President of the United States along with the former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden’s father, President-elect Joe Biden. General Harris and General Biden served with Cadwalader partner Doug Gansler, the former State Attorney General of Maryland and currently the head of the State Attorneys General practice at Cadwalader. 

Going into the November election, there were 26 Republican and 25 Democratic state Attorneys General. There were 12 state Attorney General seats contested, 10 of which were elected. All five Democratic incumbents successfully held on to their seats – North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson and Vermont Attorney General TJ Donovan. The three Republican incumbents also withstood challenges – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes and West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey. Republicans held on to two other states, Indiana and Montana, which were previously held by Republicans – Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill and Montana Attorney General Tim Fox. Former Indiana Congressman and Secretary of State Todd Rokita and Montana Speaker of the House Austin Knudsen will be sworn in as Attorneys General in January. Finally, Alaska Attorney General Kevin Clarkson resigned and was replaced by Acting Alaska Attorney General Clyde “Ed” Sniffen, Jr.
