The Supreme Court of North Carolina gets a lot of questions and filings from unrepresented litigants. Often, those folks are in the wrong court (they should be in the Court of Appeals). Other times, they’re in the right Court, but they have no idea what their filings should look like.

One way to help these folks out is to explain, in plain English, how the appellate system works. Another way is to give them forms for the most common filings.

Thankfully, the Supreme Court just finalized its “Self-Representation Packet,” which does both of those things. It was a pleasure to work under the leadership of Clerk of Court Grant Buckner, and alongside Appellate Defender Glenn Gerding, to make this project happen.
