The Inflation Reduction Act Clears the Senate

House Passage and President Biden’s Signature Expected This Week -

On Sunday, August 7, following an all-night voting session, the Senate approved the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) by a vote of 51-50. The IRA was considered under the budget reconciliation procedure, requiring only a simple majority to pass the bill; Vice President Harris cast the tiebreaking vote. Republicans introduced dozens of amendments, most of which failed on party-line votes. A few Democrats offered amendments that ultimately failed as well, as Democratic leaders were concerned that inclusion of broader amendments would jeopardize the overall legislative package.
