Two new toy recalls require immediate public attention. The first recall involves the Family Dollar Stores Inc., of Charlotte, North Carolina. That company has agreed to recall about 67,000 Authentic Heroes Target Practice Tank Play Sets that were sold for $5.00 between September and December of 2010. The second recall concerns the Butterfly Push Toys distributed by the Kang Sheng Group.
Each set consists of a gray-colored controller (marked “Target Practice Tank Play Set”) that’s powered by three “AAA” batteries, a green toy tank and a cable that attaches the two main parts. When operating properly, the battery-powered controller can make the tank move forwards and backwards. It can also cause the tank’s turret to rotate and shoot out objects. The toy may become dangerous if its controller overheats, creating a burn risk to children. Although no injuries have been reported, the Family Dollar Store has received five reports of controllers that have overheated and partially melted. Adults should immediately take these play sets away from children after first removing the batteries from the controllers. The recalled toys must then be returned to the Family Dollar Store where full refunds will be provided.
