Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS)
This service offered by the federal government allows you to search the federal trademark database. The “New User” search only returns exact and very close matches, but we can run advanced searches with variable data and specific parameters designed to return the most pertinent results.
BeerAdvocate, Ratebeer, and Untappd
Beer review sites like BeerAdvocate, RateBeer, and, Untappd are an excellent resource for determining the availability of trademarks. However, just because something pops in your search don’t automatically assume that means you’re out of luck, many beers on these sites are retired, one offs, or even homebrew.
Google
Don’t underestimate a plain old fashioned Google search, you’ll likely get a lot of non-pertinent results but it can be a good place to start.
