UK: FOBT debate heats up

For those following the ongoing political wranglings over gaming machines in UK betting shops, yesterday’s Parliamentary developments were particularly noteworthy. The issue became front-and-centre in Prime Minister’s Questions as the PM and the Leader of the Opposition debated the issue. See column 294 onwards of the transcript.

In the evening, the issue was further debated and then voted on in the Commons with the motion designed to restrict further the operation of gaming machines in betting shops ultimately defeated.

This continues to be the most visble issue affecting the industry in the UK and will continue to draw media attention.
