The United States Energy Information Administration (“EIA”) issued a September 9th report titled:
In the First Half of 2022, 24% of U.S. Electricity Generation Came from Renewable Sources (“Report”)
The Report states that the EIA publication Electric Power Monthly indicates that renewable energy sources increased from 21% of United States utility-scale electricity generation from 2021 (first half of the year) to 24% in the first six months of 2022.
The Report defines renewable generation sources as including:
- Conventional hydropower
- Wind
- Solar
- Geothermal
- Biomass
Solar and wind are stated to be the renewable sources that have grown most rapidly.
The Report also states that based on planned additions reported to EIA by power plan owners and developers another 7.0 gigawatts of wind and 13.0 gigawatts of solar capacity will come online by the end of 2022.
