What Caused the Designed Receivable Solutions Data Breach?

The Designed Receivable Solutions data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, DRSI’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides important limited information on what led up to the breach.

According to this source, on January 22, 2024, DRSI detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, DRSI secured its network and then enlisted the help of third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident.

Ultimately, DRSI’s investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access its IT network on January 18, 2024, during which they were able to view and/or obtain confidential patient information. Initially, DRSI posted a notice with the HHS-OIG, noting that personal information belonging to just over 129,000 people was affected. However, the more recent notice filed with the Maine Attorney General indicates that the true number of victims is 498,686.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, DRSI reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. DRSI completed this process on March 13, 2024. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number and address.

On April 26, 2024, Designed Receivable Solutions sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These data breach letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
