On January 25, 2013, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights
(“OCR”) issued a Dear Colleague Letter. It reiterated the existing legal obligation of school districts under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (“Section 504”) -- students with disabilities must have an equal opportunity to participate in extracurricular school sports.
