USCIS reports the FY 2023 H-1B cap electronic registration process yielded 483,927 H-1B registrations, an increase of approximately 57% compared with FY 2022 which saw 308,613 H-1B cap registrations. For FY 2023, USCIS selected 127,600 registrations in the initial selection process, or approximately 26% of the total registrations. For FY 2022, USCIS conducted three rounds of H-1B registration selections resulting in a total of 131,970 selected registrations. Additionally, USCIS indicates in FY 2023, H-1B registrations were submitted by more than 48,000 petitioners and roughly 31% of eligible registrations requested consideration under the advanced degree exemption, also known as the master’s cap. It is not yet known whether USCIS will conduct additional rounds of H-1B registration selection; if the number of H-1B petitions received by USCIS by June 30, 2022 falls short of the quota, it is likely USCIS will conduct another selection process.
