On March 21, 2024, V12 Software, Inc. filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Texas after discovering that information in the company’s possession was subject to unauthorized access. In this notice, V12 Software explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, Social Security numbers and driver’s license numbers. Upon completing its investigation, V12 Software began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

If you received a data breach notification from V12 Software, Inc., it is essential you understand what is at risk and what you can do about it. As we’ve previously mentioned in similar posts, hackers will often target those companies they believe to possess a large number of Social Security numbers. This is because hackers can either use your SSN to commit fraud against you or sell your information to other criminals. A data breach lawyer can help you learn more about how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft, as well as discuss your legal options following the V12 Software data breach. What Caused the V12 Software Data Breach?

The V12 Software data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, V12 Software doesn’t appear to have posted a website notice discussing the incident, and the company’s filing with the Attorney General of Texas provides only limited information on what led up to the breach.

We know that information that was entrusted to V12 Software was subject to unauthorized access. However, we cannot confirm that V12 Software’s IT network was breached. This is because it’s possible that hackers obtained the information through a cyberattack against one of the company’s vendors.

Regardless of how the breach occurred, once V12 Software learned that customer data had been compromised, the company reviewed the affected files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number and driver’s license number. According to the post on the Texas Attorney General’s website, the V12 Software data breach affected 286,396 people in Texas alone.

On March 21, 2024, V12 Software sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
