  • Vice President Kamala Harris met with eight AGs for a roundtable on federal and state efforts to address illegal fentanyl sales and expand access to care for individuals at risk of a fentanyl overdose.
  • The roundtable included discussion of federal tools to combat illegal fentanyl use that can be utilized by state enforcement officials, including the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program, model state laws to address substance use disorder and overdoses, and the non-fatal opioid overdose tracker.
  • The Biden administration has encouraged AGs to coordinate with regional HIDTA Programs to disrupt criminal organizations responsible for the spread of fentanyl and to maximize the use of opioid settlement funds and government funding for efforts prevent fentanyl overdoses.
