In this paper we consider how a new generation of virtual reality headsets promises to fundamentally change consumer experiences of virtual environments, and we raise some of the major legal and regulatory challenges that companies active in the virtual reality equipment field may face.

In particular we explore seven specific areas: data privacy; patent disputes and trade secrets; patentability; product and regulatory liability; content licensing; medical devices; and reputational risks.
