  • Washington AG Bob Ferguson announced that his office has recovered an additional $9.3 million in money stolen as part of a nationwide pandemic unemployment fraud scheme perpetrated against the state’s Employment Security Department.
  • According to the AG’s office, it subpoenaed banks, credit unions, and money services businesses to identify red flags indicating that accounts may contain stolen funds. These red flags included accounts that received unemployment benefits from multiple states, accounts that received benefits for multiple people, and mismatches between the personal information of the account holder and the person who supposedly applied for benefits.
  • As previously reported, AG Ferguson had recovered $18.8 million in funds stolen through unemployment fraud as of June 2022. AG Ferguson has now recovered over $33.7 million in stolen funds.
