Washington State and CMS reached an agreement in principle for a five-year Medicaid demonstration waiver to allow up to $1.5 billion of federal investment to strengthen state efforts to improve health care for Washington families and control costs. The Washington State Health Care Authority announced that it would be negotiating the special terms and conditions with CMS during the coming months. The agreement includes the following three initiatives under the waiver:

  1. Initiative 1 – Transformation through Accountable Communities of Health;
  2. Initiative 2 – Broaden the array of service options that enable individuals to stay at home and delay or avoid the need for more intensive care; and
  3. Initiative 3 – Provide targeted foundational community supports.
