Industries and municipalities contribute to Vaal river pollution, SAHRC hears
There is continued unlawful spillage, mainly sewage, into waterways that run into the Vaal river from the Emfuleni region, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) was told on Wednesday, during the final sitting of its inquiry into the contamination of the river.
South African National Defence Force and Remediation Intervention Team commander Colonel Andries Mahapa was providing the SAHRC with an update on the defence force's work to resolve the pollution of the river.

Water deal crucial for Kenya oil project might slip into Q3 – Tullow
A deal with local Kenyan authorities that would allow Tullow Oil to pump water to pressurise oil wells, crucial for a final green light for the country's only oil project, may be delayed to the third quarter, a Tullow executive said on Friday.
Tullow, with partners Total and Africa Oil, is working towards a final investment decision by year-end and had hoped the water deal would be reached by mid-year, Tullow's Kenya Managing Director Martin Mbogo said.

DEA to undertake ZAR7m water quality testing project in PE
The Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) will lead a ZAR7 million water quality testing project, titled "Improving Ocean Governance in the Benguela Current Large Marine Econsystem" (BCLME III) in the Swartkops area, in Port Elizabeth.
The project is being implemented by the Benguela Current Convention (BCC) Secretariat, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, which will be funded by the Global Environment Facility and BCC parties.

Sasol denies claims it intentionally polluted Vaal River
A whistleblower's claims that Sasol is to blame for the intentional pollution of the Vaal River, were vehemently denied by the petrochemical giant at a South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) inquiry on Wednesday.
The SAHRC established the inquiry in September 2018 to determine whether the pollution of the river amounted to an infringement of basic human rights and to establish what caused the contamination in the first place.

JoJo offering trade-in discount on end-of-life tanks
Polymer tank manufacturer JoJo is providing a credit of ZAR2/kg for roto-moulded polymer products returned to partner stores as a trade-in on a replacement JoJo product, says JoJo national sales and marketing manager Sebasti Badenhorst.
Clients can also bring any end-of-life JoJo tanks to a Hinterland store to get a discount on a new tank. The company reuses the polymer for septic tanks and conservancy tanks.
