Municipal Councils are given a broad responsibility under the Building Act to administer and enforce the Act. Councils are given a broad range of powers to assist them in performing these tasks under the Act. However in some cases Councils seem to place less priority on enforcement of the Building Act than they do on enforcement of other civil misdemeanours. This article explores what may fall within Council's ambit of administration and enforcement as well as the seriousness of the obligations on Councils.
