An increasing number of our clients have received letters from companies that appear to be government agencies with names such as "U.S. Trademark Registry," "U.S. Trademark Registration Office" and "Registration & Monitoring Division."

These companies are in no way affiliated with the official U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or any government agency.

They are private companies seeking your business by offering to enter your trademark in their private registry or to record your trademark with U.S. Customs for a fee. Legitimate correspondence from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, or any foreign office, regarding your trademark is sent to your law firm.

Please do not take any action regarding any such unofficial communications you receive about your trademark applications or registrations.

DISCLAIMER: Because of the generality of this update, the information provided herein may not be applicable in all situations and should not be acted upon without specific legal advice based on particular situations.
