Why Do Lawyers Rank as the Least Valuable of Professions?

In a recent survey, people were asked to rank 10 professions on how much they feel each profession contributes to society.

You know who was ranked dead last?… sadly, lawyers.

It’s really not that surprising. Though law is a helping profession, the traditional law business model leaves lawyers who focus on helping broke, tired and burned out.

If you learn from the most “successful” lawyers (success from a financial perspective), you’ll be constantly focusing on the next new client, stuck on the cash flow roller coaster and the marketing merry go round, getting more and more sick and tired.

It’s not sustainable and your clients will hate it. And maybe you. No wonder we’ve got the rap as the least valuable of professionals.

Success seems to require you to market yourself into a corner. High overhead, no relationship with your clients, and constantly processing documents (that quite possibly won’t work for their clients when your clients actually need them). And never quite enough cash flow to slow down, relax and make a shift.

It’s not your fault. You simply haven’t seen that there can be a different way. Perhaps you know it deep down in your heart, but who has time to dig that deep when there are bills to pay.
