Will DTE Natural Gas Plant Require Eminent Domain for New Pipe Lines?

DTE has announced plans to convert coal plants into a new natural gas plant, potentially requiring eminent domain.

This Free Press article describes a new natural gas plant plan for St. Clair County. DTE intends for this plant to replace coal power plants that it's in the process of phasing out for efficiency and environmental reasons.

In order to operate an natural gas plant, presumably pipe lines must bring gas to the plant for processing. At this point, I do not know if the existing location has sufficient facilities to bring the materials necessary to fuel a natural gas plant. Presumably, if it is constructed on the same site as an existing coal plant, the transmission lines necessary to take the power and put into the grid already exist.

This will be something for St. Clair property owners to keep their eyes on as news of it is released.
