FDA Issues New Rule Regarding Calorie Type Size Requirement on Vending Machine Products -

On October 25, 2019, the FDA issued a final rule revising the type size requirements for calorie labeling on foods sold in vending machines. The rule establishes that that the front-of-package calorie information type size must be at least 150 percent the size of the minimum required size of the net weight declaration on the package of the food item. Prior to this rule, the FDA required that the type size be at least 50 percent the size of the largest printed item on the label.
