The position of the professional entertainer/athlete as a party in family law proceedings can be particularly challenging. In my experience in acting (no pun intended) for such clients, it soon becomes clear that lawyers need to grapple with not only the usual array of issues arising out of a family law case, but also with various problems specific to their client's profession. This paper offers a precis of the law in Australia governing the breakdown of marriage and specific issues pertaining to the professional entertainer/athlete.
