The Department of Social Services' failure to increase visitation hinders reunification of parent and child. DSS will sometimes take the position that therapeutic intervention is needed to increase visitation, which causes further delays. These delays can last until the deadlines for reunification are up and the court looks for permanent placement for the child. Attorneys need to push for increased for visitation at each and every stage of the proceeding to avoid this common pitfall in dependency cases.
