The Multi-employer Pension Plan Amendments Act of 1980 (“MPPAA”) (Pub. Law 96-364) amended the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), to impose liability for a share of the unfunded vested benefits of a multi-employer pension plan on employers who withdraw from the plan.
