Woman Killed by SUV Backing Up into a Parking Space, New York Auto Accident Lawyer Comments

New York auto accident lawyer David Perecman comments on the tragic auto accident in New York that killed 78-year-old Yolanda Casal.

According to witnesses, Casal was thrown through the air after she was hit by an SUV whose driver was backing up into a parking space. The New York auto accident left her with massive head trauma. Her daughter, who was walking beside her, was also hit. The auto accident left 41-year-old Anais Emmanuel with broken ribs.

“Drivers need to be aware of the potential for backing accidents. Many accidents occur when vehicles are moving in reverse, especially in a city as crowded as New York,” said auto accident lawyer Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, one of New York’s auto accident law firms.

Cyclists, pedestrians and small children are especially vulnerable to personal injury when vehicles are backing up. This type of auto accident often results in serious injury or death to pedestrians, cyclists and others not protected by the metal body of a vehicle.

New York auto accident lawyers understand that these auto accidents typically occur when the driver puts a vehicle into reverse without checking whether or not it is safe to back up.

If the negligence of a driver causes a pedestrian injury or death, he or she may be able to recover compensation for the injuries and damages sustained in the auto accident
