The termination provisions in the Copyright Act provide a tool for authors and their heirs to recapture copyrights previously granted or assigned. Counsel, authors, artists and content distributors involved in the creation, acquisition and/or exploitation of copyrighted materials should be aware of these highly technical, yet powerful statutory rights to terminate prior copyright grants.
