Protection of riparian rights often can be one of the best way to protect the environment. Right now there is a case pending before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals involving this very issue. The riparian rights of homeowners are being destroyed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' repeated discharges of polluted water from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie River and estuary in Florida. Final briefs in that case to be filed on August 19, 2010.
