Four vehicles collided and six people were injured in a Sacramento car accident on Monday morning when the vehicles tried to avoid a motorist who stopped on northbound Interstate 5 south of Arena Boulevard to pick up cans of paint that had dropped from his pick-up truck. Two of the vehicles appeared to be totaled and six people were taken to area hospitals with various injuries. This Sacramento injury accident remains under investigation.
The driver of the pickup is likely liable for this collision for a couple of reasons. First, California Vehicle Code ยง23114 requires that all loads be secured in such a way that they are not allowed to be spilled onto a highway. Second, after dropping the paint cans on the freeway, the driver created a hazard for vehicles by trying to retrieve the cans in traffic.
