However, during the past two years, several manufacturers (and the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) have discovered that a number of these televisions and wall mounts may pose serious dangers to the public.  Our firm has put together a short list of some of these products below. Be sure you're not still using any of these recalled items.

Recalled TVs and Wall Mounts

Everyone who has purchased a television and/or wall mount during the last two years is urged to immediately check and make sure you aren't still using one of the products mentioned in this article.  Since some of these products were definitely sold to healthcare facilities, all of us should consider asking any of the ones we frequent if they're certain that they're no longer using any of them.

  • 32-inch Sharp LCD-TVs had to be recalled because their "neck supports" can break and cause them to tip over, creating an injury risk to consumers. About 9,000 of these products were recalled. Consumers who still have one of these sets can call Sharp for a replacement neck support;
  • Close to 131,000 flat screen television wall mounts had to be recalled by manufacturer Milestone AV Technologies LLC, of Savage, Minnesota, because "the elbow joint components on the wall mount's arm do not fit together properly."  This problem can cause the attached television to potentially fall when a consumer tries to adjust the position of the TV;
  • Approximately 2,700 televisions installed in various medical or healthcare facilities were recalled because "a capacitor on the television's power supply board can fail, posing a fire hazard."  These TVs were distributed by PDi Communications Inc., of Springboro, Ohio.  All general medical/healthcare facilities should take the time to look around and be sure that they are no longer using any of these 26-inch or 32-inch Wall-mounted LCD Televisions;
  • Close to 13,300 Insignia 26-inch Flat-panel LCD Model IS-LCD TV26 Televisions were recalled because their power supplies can fail, creating fire and burn risks for consumers. These TVs were imported by Best Buy Co. Inc., of Richfield, Minnesota;
  • About 140,000 LCD Television Wall Mounts were recalled because they can "crack when used with televisions 26 inches and larger or with televisions that include a DVD player." These TVs can actually "crack off" their wall mounts and fall upon consumers standing or sitting nearby. These wall mounts were manufactured by Milestone AV Technologies, of Savage, Minnesota.  Milestone has received notification of at least 28 incidents where these mounts have broken and the TVs have fallen.
