SUMMARY: Supplemental brief in support of Farley Anderson's petition to the Utah Supreme Court requesting an extraordinary writ directing the Lieutenant Governor to accept electronic signatures collected in support of Mr. Anderson's gubernatorial candidacy nomination petition.

The Utah Supreme Court heard oral argument on June 2, 2010, and granted leave to file supplemental briefs in support of the arguments raised at the hearing.

Mr. Anderson is an independent candidate for Governor of Utah whose petition to be placed on the ballot was wrongfully rejected by the Lieutenant Governor in March 2010. Mr. Anderson seeks a ruling from the Utah Supreme Court that "e-signatures" — signatures collected on-line — should be treated the same as handwritten signatures for purposes of independent candidate nominating petitions.

Mr. Anderson also seeks a ruling from the Utah Supreme Court on the constitutional right of independent political candidates to fair and equal access to the general election ballot.
