This article addresses the plethora of changes in employment law enacted since President Obama took office in January, including: alterations to COBRA, limitations on free speech rights of federal contractors, additional whistleblower protections and extensions on employment discrimination claims. The authors also explain the significant changes in employment law that will take place if the “Employee Free Choice Act,” currently pending in Congress, is signed into law. The Act would “radically change the procedure for union certification elections,” the authors note, by “eliminating secret balloting in union campaigns.”
