Declaration of Member of Howrey's Dissolution Committee and Former Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer in Support of Howrey's First Day Motions

Bankruptcy Judge Dennis Montali of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California entered an order on Monday converting the involuntary chapter 7 bankruptcy case filed against Howrey LLP to a chapter 11 bankruptcy case. The conversion came at the request of Howrey, which is also seeking to have the bankruptcy case transferred to either Virginia or Washington, D.C. Judge Montali is scheduled to consider the transfer request on June 29th.

Howrey was once a major international law firm with over 750 attorneys and over 1,650 employees. The law firm's partners voted to dissolve the firm in March 2011 after "a significant decline in profits beginning in 2009 and the departure of approximately 30% of Howrey’s partners in 2010." The firm now has only one office (in Washington, D.C.) where approximately 50 employees manage the wind-down of the firm's operations.
