The ABA Civil Discovery Standards: Each standard is intended to:

Eliminate unnecessary effort and expense; Restrict the opportunities for misusing the discovery process, and Encourage a cooperative rather than adversarial approach to discovery Depositions are addressed in Section V, Rules 17, 18 and 19.
