Videotape Reveals Nursing Home Abuse, New York Auto Accident Lawyer Applauds Victim’s Son

Steve Piskor captured the abuse of his mother on a video camera he hid inside an Ohio nursing home. Piskor had suspected his 78 year old mother was a victim of nursing home abuse.

David Perecman, a New York personal injury lawyer who handles New York nursing home abuse and elder abuse cases commends Piskor for his initiative.

“It’s admirable he didn’t just give up and let it go," said Perecman, a New York personal injury lawyer with knowledge of nursing home abuse and elder abuse issues.

The videos show two nurses aides at the Prentiss Center for Skilled Nursing Care hitting Esther in the face, shoving her into a wall and throwing her into her bed.

The videos led to both criminal and regulatory investigations as well as questions about whether administrators ignored complaints by Piskor that his mother was being abused in the nursing home.

Elder abuse and nursing home abuse are national problems. Each day, hundreds of elders in New York and elsewhere are victimized.

Nursing home abuse in New York takes a variety of forms including negligent care, verbal abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and financial exploitation

“If a family member thinks something is wrong, he or she shouldn’t hesitate to speak up. The first step is to recognize the types, signs and symptoms of nursing home abuse,” said Perecman, a New York personal injury lawyer with experience helping victims of nursing home abuse and elder neglect.
