The Association of Media & Entertainment Counsel (AMEC) is the only organization of its kind. Formed in late 2005, AMEC is designed to support the career development and honor the achievements of in-house counsel and business affairs attorneys at major entertainment and media companies.
AMEC was founded by Arnold Peter, a partner at the entertainment boutique law firm of Peter Rubin & Simon and former Vice President of Legal Affairs and Labor Relationships at Universal Studios, Bill Simon, Chair of the Global Media & Entertainment Practice at executive search firm Korn Ferry International and Peter Winkler, long-time global marketing leader of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Global Entertainment & Media Practice and now PwC's Sales & Marketing Leader for Southern California/Phoenix. The founders were concerned that no organization existed to represent the interests and aspirations of in-house counsel and business affairs attorneys at entertainment and media companies. No existing organizations provided training or career guidance for the unique needs of those individuals. Furthermore, when the entertainment industry came together to honor those who had achieved the highest levels of success, virtually every discipline from actors to costumers were recognized in a formal way with one exception—in-counsel and business affairs.
The organization had its genesis in a news magazine called Media & Entertainment Insights which covers the latest developments in the business and legal aspects of the entertainment industry. By focusing on the business issues related to legal developments, Insights is able to keep its readership updated on the economic shifts and business trends in the industry. Insights now reaches over 30,000 readers consisting of legal and non-legal senior executives throughout the world.
Media & Entertainment Insights is published four times a years, for the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel by the Global Entertainment and Media Practice Groups of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Korn Ferry International and the law firm of Peter Rubin & Simon. The articles focus on cutting edge business, technology and legal issues including video-on-demand, vertical integration in the entertainment industry, innovations in delivery of digital content and the legal implications of the Napster decision. Insights also regularly profiles leaders in the entertainment, business and legal community.
