I practice exclusively in the employment benefits (ERISA) and employment law area. My goal is to help employers use the powerful tool of employment-sponsored benefits to attract and retain quality employees.
In addition to many years' experience in private practice, I have worked in-house at a company that sets up retirement plans, so I can aid employers in understanding the plan vendors' perspective, as well as the legal requirements of ERISA. I can also help employers avoid benefits decisions that satisfy ERISA's requirements but do not meet state wage and hour or insurance law requirements. My client base includes for-profit and non-profit organizations ranging in size from a handful of employees, to several thousand.
I assist employers in resolving problems with all types of benefit plans, including taking retirement plans through IRS and Department of Labor voluntary compliance programs. I have a lot of experience dealing with day-to-day employer queries about health plan coverage, COBRA coverage, and Section 125 "cafeteria" plans. I also can draft and provide strategic advice to clients regarding benefit plan documents, employment agreements, termination agreements, and employee handbooks. Finally, I can provide benefits due diligence services to clients undergoing, or pursuing, change in control transactions with other business entities.
